Jeffrey Monteiro has a slew of admirers and famous friends. Recently, the Derek Lam and Mayle alum collaborated with Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon on her line for Urban Outfitters, Mirror/Dash. After striking out on his own, Monteiro infused his unique brand of international chic by tapping his personal influences. Born in the Middle East, the designer spent his childhood days in Australia and India, before heading to New York.
For his 2010 Resort Collection, Monteiro went easy breezy with casual separates that tended towards the metallic. The various iridescent treatments and silvery (like the dress Kate Moss wore to the Met’s Costume Institute Gala) relaxed dresses have a wearability that keeps the buyers happy. Fashionable stores such as Barneys and Steven Alan in New York and Satine in LA stock the budding brand.
Thankfully for us, Monteiro held the prices mostly below the $500 range. Considering the quality of construction and materials (plenty of silks), and of course design, we’re happy to see that the line is catering to the wiser fashion shopper.
